4 Therefore, the Law has become paralyzed,
and justice never comes about.
Because criminals outnumber[a] the righteous,
whenever judgments are issued, they come out crooked.”

5 “Look out at the nations and pay attention!
Be astounded! Be really astounded!
Because something is happening in your lifetime
that you won’t believe, even if it were described down to the smallest detail.[b]
6 Watch out! For I am bringing in the Chaldeans,[c]
that cruel and impetuous[d] people,
who sweep across the earth
dispossessing people[e] from homes not their own.

The wicked hem in the righteous,
so that justice(B) is perverted.(C)

5 “Look at the nations and watch—
and be utterly amazed.(D)
For I am going to do something in your days
that you would not believe,
even if you were told.(E)
6 I am raising up the Babylonians,[a](F)
that ruthless and impetuous people,
who sweep across the whole earth(G)
to seize dwellings not their own.(H)
