35 Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has (A)a great reward. 36 For (B)you have need of endurance, so that (C)when you have done the will of God you may (D)receive what is promised. 37 For,

(E)“Yet a little while,
    and (F)the coming one will come and will not delay;
38 (G)but my righteous one shall live by faith,
    and if he shrinks back,
my soul has no pleasure in him.”

39 But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.

By Faith

11 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of (H)things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by (I)the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of (J)things that are visible.

35 So do not throw away your confidence;(A) it will be richly rewarded.

36 You need to persevere(B) so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.(C) 37 For,

“In just a little while,
he who is coming(D) will come
    and will not delay.”[a](E)

38 And,

“But my righteous[b] one will live by faith.(F)
    And I take no pleasure
in the one who shrinks back.”[c](G)

39 But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.

Faith in Action

11 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for(H) and assurance about what we do not see.(I) This is what the ancients were commended for.(J)

By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command,(K) so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God (A)must believe that he exists and (B)that he rewards those who seek him.
