14 Follow after peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no man shall see the Lord: 15 looking carefully [a]lest there be any man that [b]falleth short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby the many be defiled; 16 [c]lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one mess of meat sold his own birthright.

14 Make every effort to live in peace with everyone(A) and to be holy;(B) without holiness no one will see the Lord.(C) 15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God(D) and that no bitter root(E) grows up to cause trouble and defile many. 16 See that no one is sexually immoral,(F) or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son.(G)
