⁵And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as children—

“My child, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord
or lose heart when you are punished by him,^(A)

⁵And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says,

“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,
and do not lose heart^(A) when he rebukes you,

⁶for the Lord disciplines those whom he loves
and chastises every child whom he accepts.”^(A)

⁶because the Lord disciplines the one he loves,^(A)
