Hebrews 12:8-10
Good News Translation
8 If you are not punished, as all his children are, it means you are not real children, but bastards. 9 In the case of our human fathers, they punished us and we respected them. How much more, then, should we submit to our spiritual Father and live! 10 Our human fathers punished us for a short time, as it seemed right to them; but God does it for our own good, so that we may share his holiness.

Hebrews 12:8-10
New International Version
8 If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline(A)—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. 9 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits(B) and live!(C) 10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness.(D)
