Hebrews 12:8-10

8 But if you are without discipline—something all have come to share—then you are illegitimate and not sons. 9 Besides, we are used to having human fathers as instructors—and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? 10 Indeed, for a short time they disciplined us as seemed best to them; but He does so for our benefit, so that we may share in His holiness.

8 If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline(A)—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. 9 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits(B) and live!(C) 10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness.(D)
