Hebrews 12:9-11
Darby Translation
9 Moreover we have had the fathers of our flesh as chasteners, and we reverenced [them]; shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live?
10 For they indeed chastened for a few days, as seemed good to them; but he for profit, in order to the partaking of his holiness.
11 But no chastening at the time seems to be [matter] of joy, but of grief; but afterwards yields [the] peaceful fruit of righteousness to those exercised by it.

Hebrews 12:9-11
New International Version
9 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits(A) and live!(B) 10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness.(C) 11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace(D) for those who have been trained by it.
