Hebrews 7:20-22

²⁰It is important that God did this with an oath. Others became priests without an oath, ²¹but Christ became a priest with God’s oath. God said:

“The Lord has made a promise
and will not change his mind.
‘You are a priest forever.’” Psalm 110:4

²²This means that Jesus is the guarantee of a better agreement^[a] from God to his people.

7:22 agreement God gives a contract or agreement to his people. For the Jews, this agreement was the Law of Moses. But now God has given a better agreement to his people through Christ.

²⁰And it was not without an oath! Others became priests without any oath, ²¹but he became a priest with an oath when God said to him:

“The Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind:^(A)
‘You are a priest forever.’”^[a]^(B)

²²Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantor of a better covenant.^(C)
