    with thorns and thistles.
Then everyone will beg
the mountains and hills
    to cover and protect them.

The Lord Promises To Punish Israel

(B) Israel, you have never
stopped sinning[a]
    since that time at Gibeah.[b]
That's why you
    will be attacked at Gibeah.[c]
10 Your sins have doubled,
    and you are rebellious.
Now I have decided
to send nations to attack
    and put you in chains.

The high places(A) of wickedness[a](B) will be destroyed—
    it is the sin of Israel.
Thorns(C) and thistles will grow up
    and cover their altars.(D)
Then they will say to the mountains, “Cover us!”(E)
    and to the hills, “Fall on us!”(F)

“Since the days of Gibeah,(G) you have sinned,(H) Israel,
    and there you have remained.[b]
Will not war again overtake
    the evildoers in Gibeah?
10 When I please, I will punish(I) them;
    nations will be gathered against them
    to put them in bonds for their double sin.
