16 “And (A)in that day, declares the Lord, you will call me ‘My Husband,’ and no longer will you call me ‘My Baal.’ 17 For (B)I will remove the names of the Baals from her mouth, and they shall be remembered by name no more. 18 And (C)I will make for them a covenant on that day with the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the creeping things of the ground. And (D)I will abolish[a] the bow, the sword, and war from the land, and I will make you lie down in (E)safety. 19 And I will betroth you to me (F)forever. (G)I will betroth you to me in righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love and in mercy. 20 (H)I will betroth you to me in faithfulness. And (I)you shall know the Lord.
21 “And (J)in that day (K)I will answer, declares the Lord,
I will answer the heavens,
and they shall answer the earth,
22 and the earth shall answer the grain, the wine, and the oil,
and they shall answer (L)Jezreel,[b]
23 and (M)I will sow her for myself in the land.
And (N)I (O)will have mercy on No Mercy,[c]
and (P)I will say to Not My People,[d] (Q)‘You are my people’;
and he shall say, ‘You are my God.’”

16 “In that day,” declares the Lord,
“you will call me ‘my husband’;(A)
you will no longer call me ‘my master.[a]’
17 I will remove the names of the Baals from her lips;(B)
no longer will their names be invoked.(C)
18 In that day I will make a covenant for them
with the beasts of the field, the birds in the sky
and the creatures that move along the ground.(D)
Bow and sword and battle
I will abolish(E) from the land,
so that all may lie down in safety.(F)
19 I will betroth(G) you to me forever;
I will betroth you in[b] righteousness and justice,(H)
in[c] love and compassion.(I)
20 I will betroth you in[d] faithfulness,
and you will acknowledge(J) the Lord.(K)
21 “In that day I will respond,”
declares the Lord—
“I will respond(L) to the skies,
and they will respond to the earth;
22 and the earth will respond to the grain,
the new wine and the olive oil,(M)
and they will respond to Jezreel.[e](N)
23 I will plant(O) her for myself in the land;
I will show my love to the one I called ‘Not my loved one.[f](P)’
I will say to those called ‘Not my people,[g]’ ‘You are my people’;(Q)
and they will say, ‘You are my God.(R)’”
