14 I will not [a]visit your daughters when they are harlots: nor your spouses, when they are whores: for they themselves are separated with harlots, and sacrifice with whores: therefore the people that doth not understand, shall fall.

15 Though thou Israel, play the harlot, yet [b]let not Judah sin: come not ye unto [c]Gilgal, neither go ye up to [d]Beth Aven, nor swear, The Lord liveth.

16 For Israel is rebellious as an unruly heifer. Now the Lord will feed them as a [e]lamb in a large place.

    do not let Judah become guilty.

    And do not swear, ‘As surely as the Lord lives!’(G)
16 The Israelites are stubborn,(H)
    like a stubborn heifer.(I)
How then can the Lord pasture them
    like lambs(J) in a meadow?
