Hosea 6:5-7

5 This is why I have used the prophets
to cut them down;[a](A)
I have killed them with the words from my mouth.
My judgment strikes like lightning.[b]
6 For I desire faithful love and not sacrifice,
the knowledge of God(B) rather than burnt offerings.(C)

7 But they, like Adam,[c] have violated the covenant;(D)
there they have betrayed me.(E)

5 Therefore I cut you in pieces with my prophets,
    I killed you with the words of my mouth(A)—
    then my judgments go forth like the sun.[a](B)
6 For I desire mercy, not sacrifice,(C)
    and acknowledgment(D) of God rather than burnt offerings.(E)
7 As at Adam,[b] they have broken the covenant;(F)
    they were unfaithful(G) to me there.
