Hosea 2:14-23 New International Version (NIV)

¹⁴“Therefore I am now going to allure her;
    I will lead her into the wilderness
    and speak tenderly to her.
¹⁵There I will give her back her vineyards,
    and will make the Valley of Achor^[a] a door of hope.
There she will respond^[b] as in the days of her youth,
    as in the day she came up out of Egypt.

¹⁶“In that day,” declares the Lord,
    “you will call me ‘my husband’;
    you will no longer call me ‘my master.^[c]’
¹⁷I will remove the names of the Baals from her lips;
    no longer will their names be invoked.
¹⁸In that day I will make a covenant for them
    with the beasts of the field, the birds in the sky
    and the creatures that move along the ground.
Bow and sword and battle
    I will abolish from the land,
    so that all may lie down in safety.
¹⁹I will betroth you to me forever;
    I will betroth you in^[d] righteousness and justice,
    in^[e] love and compassion.
²⁰I will betroth you in^[f] faithfulness,
    and you will acknowledge the Lord.

²¹“In that day I will respond,”
    declares the Lord—
“I will respond to the skies,
    and they will respond to the earth;
²²and the earth will respond to the grain,
    the new wine and the olive oil,
    and they will respond to Jezreel.^[g]
²³I will plant her for myself in the land;
    I will show my love to the one I called ‘Not my loved one.^[h]’
I will say to those called ‘Not my people,^[i]’ ‘You are my people’;
    and they will say, ‘You are my God.’”

²²Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. ²³For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. ²⁴Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

²⁵Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her ²⁶to make her holy, cleansing^[a] her by the washing with water through the word, ²⁷and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. ²⁸In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. ²⁹After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— ³⁰for we are members of his body. ³¹“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”^[b] ³²This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.
