²⁵ I will turn my hand against you,
    and refine your dross in the furnace,
    removing all your alloy.

²⁹ The bellows are scorched,
    the lead is consumed by the fire;
In vain has the refiner refined,
    the wicked are not drawn off.
³⁰ “Silver rejected” they shall be called,
    for the Lord has rejected them.

⁹ I will bring the one third through the fire;
    I will refine them as one refines silver,^(A)
    and I will test them as one tests gold.
They will call upon my name, and I will answer them;^(B)
    I will say, “They are my people,”^(C)
    and they will say, “The Lord is my God.”

² But who can endure the day of his coming?
    Who can stand firm when he appears?
For he will be like a refiner’s fire,
    like fullers’ lye.
