¹² So it will be that when the Lord has completed all His ^(A)work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, He will say, “I will ^[a]punish the fruit of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria and ^(B)the pomp of ^[b]his haughtiness.”

²⁵ to ^(A)break Assyria in My land, and I will trample him on My mountains. Then his ^(B)yoke will be removed from them and his burden removed from their shoulder.

⁷ Behold, I will put a spirit in him so that he will ^(A)hear a rumor and ^(B)return to his own land. And I will make him fall by the sword in his own land.”’”

Assyrians Destroyed

³⁶ Then the ^(A)angel of the Lord went out and struck 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians; and when ^[a]men arose early in the morning, behold, all of these were ^[b]dead. ³⁷ So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and ^[c]returned home and lived at ^(B)Nineveh. ³⁸ It came about as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons killed him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of ^(C)Ararat. And ^(D)Esarhaddon his son became king in his place.
