¹⁹ And it will be that ^(A)Babylon, the ^(B)beauty of kingdoms, the ^[a]honor of the Chaldeans’ pride,
Will be as when God ^(C)overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.

⁹ But these ^(A)two things will come on you ^(B)suddenly in one day:
Loss of children and widowhood.
They will come on you in full measure
In spite of your many ^(C)sorceries,
In spite of the great might of your spells.

⁸ Suddenly ^(A)Babylon has fallen and been broken;
^(B)Wail over her!
^(C)Take ^[a]balm for her pain;
Perhaps she may be healed.
