Isaiah 14:5-7 The Passion Translation (TPT)

The Lord Yahweh has shattered the staff of the wicked,
    the brutal rod[a] of the rulers.
With their unceasing blows they used it cruelly
    to strike down nations.
    They subdued nations in anger with unrelenting persecution.
But now the whole earth rests and is at peace.
    It bursts out with singing;[b]

Footnotes:

  1. Isaiah 14:5 A “brutal rod,” a metonymy, represents the authority of wicked rulers.
  2. Isaiah 14:7 With the oppressive tyranny of the systems of Babylon destroyed, the prophet now sees the people break out with rejoicing and singing. See Isa. 44:23; 49:13; 52:9; 54:1; 55:12.

Isaiah 14:5-7 New International Version (NIV)

The Lord has broken the rod of the wicked,
    the scepter of the rulers,
which in anger struck down peoples
    with unceasing blows,
and in fury subdued nations
    with relentless aggression.
All the lands are at rest and at peace;
    they break into singing.
