Isaiah 16:6-8
New American Bible (Revised Edition)
6 We have heard of the pride of Moab,
how very proud he is,
Of his haughtiness, pride, and arrogance
that his empty words do not match.(A)
7 [a]Therefore let Moab wail,
let everyone wail for Moab;
For the raisin cakes[b] of Kir-hareseth
let them sigh, stricken with grief.
8 The terraced slopes of Heshbon languish,
the vines of Sibmah,
Whose clusters once overpowered
the lords of nations,
Reaching as far as Jazer
winding through the wilderness,[c]
Whose branches spread forth,
crossing over the sea.
Isaiah 16:6-8
New International Version
6 We have heard of Moab’s(A) pride(B)—
how great is her arrogance!—
of her conceit, her pride and her insolence;
but her boasts are empty.
7 Therefore the Moabites wail,(C)
they wail together for Moab.
Lament and grieve
for the raisin cakes(D) of Kir Hareseth.(E)
8 The fields of Heshbon(F) wither,(G)
the vines of Sibmah(H) also.
The rulers of the nations
have trampled down the choicest vines,(I)
which once reached Jazer(J)
and spread toward the desert.
Their shoots spread out(K)
and went as far as the sea.[a](L)
