Isaiah 17:3-5
The Voice

3     The defenses of the Northern Kingdom, Israel, will fall—
        Ephraim’s fortress walls will tumble down;
    Damascus will no longer rule itself.
        Aram—what is left of them—will resemble Israel’s fading glory.

That’s what the Eternal, Commander of heavenly armies, says.

4 Eternal One: Israel will be humbled then too;
        our cousins, the children of Jacob, will lose their luster, their wealth and excess.
5     The land will resemble a field stripped until it is nearly bare,
        like when the harvest has come and gone,
        like the meager grain gleaned in the valley of Rephaim.

New International Version

3 The fortified(A) city will disappear from Ephraim,
    and royal power from Damascus;
the remnant of Aram will be
    like the glory(B) of the Israelites,”(C)
declares the Lord Almighty.

4 “In that day(D) the glory(E) of Jacob will fade;
    the fat of his body will waste(F) away.
5 It will be as when reapers harvest the standing grain,
    gathering(G) the grain in their arms—
as when someone gleans heads of grain(H)
    in the Valley of Rephaim.(I)
