¹² The Lord Almighty has a day^(A) in store
    for all the proud^(B) and lofty,^(C)
for all that is exalted^(D)
    (and they will be humbled),^(E)

³ What will you do on the day of reckoning,^(A)
    when disaster^(B) comes from afar?
To whom will you run for help?^(C)
    Where will you leave your riches?

⁹ See, the day^(A) of the Lord is coming
    —a cruel^(B) day, with wrath^(C) and fierce anger^(D)—
to make the land desolate
    and destroy the sinners within it.

⁸ For the Lord has a day^(A) of vengeance,^(B)
    a year of retribution,^(C) to uphold Zion’s cause.
