17 Turn your ear, Adonai, and hear! Open your eyes, Adonai, and see! Hear all the words that Sancheriv sent to taunt the living God. 18 It is true that the kings of Ashur have laid waste all the countries and their lands 19 and have thrown their gods into the fire. For those were non-gods, merely the products of people’s hands, wood and stone; this is why they could destroy them.

18 “It is true, Lord, that the Assyrian kings have laid waste all these peoples and their lands.(F) 19 They have thrown their gods into the fire(G) and destroyed them,(H) for they were not gods(I) but only wood and stone, fashioned by human hands.(J)
