7 I myself will put a spirit in him, so that he shall hear a rumour, and return to his own land; I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.”’
8 The Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria fighting against Libnah; for he had heard that the king had left Lachish. 9 Now the king[a] heard concerning King Tirhakah of Ethiopia,[b] ‘He has set out to fight against you.’ When he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

New International Version
7 Listen! When he hears a certain report,(A) I will make him want(B) to return to his own country, and there I will have him cut down(C) with the sword.’”
8 When the field commander heard that the king of Assyria had left Lachish,(D) he withdrew and found the king fighting against Libnah.(E)
9 Now Sennacherib(F) received a report(G) that Tirhakah, the king of Cush,[a](H) was marching out to fight against him. When he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah with this word:
