28 who says of Cyrus,(A) ‘He is my shepherd
    and will accomplish all that I please;
he will say of Jerusalem,(B) “Let it be rebuilt,”
    and of the temple,(C) “Let its foundations(D) be laid.”’

45 “This is what the Lord says to his anointed,(E)
    to Cyrus,(F) whose right hand I take hold(G) of
to subdue nations(H) before him

I will break down gates(K) of bronze
    and cut through bars of iron.(L)
I will give you hidden treasures,(M)
    riches stored in secret places,(N)
so that you may know(O) that I am the Lord,

For the sake of Jacob my servant,(Q)
    of Israel my chosen,
I summon you by name
    and bestow on you a title of honor,

  1. Isaiah 45:2 Dead Sea Scrolls and Septuagint; the meaning of the word in the Masoretic Text is uncertain.

28 That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.

45 Thus saith the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;

I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:

And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.

For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.
