²⁵ Therefore the Lord’s anger^(A) burns against his people;
    his hand is raised and he strikes them down.
The mountains shake,^(B)
    and the dead bodies^(C) are like refuse^(D) in the streets.^(E)

Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away,^(F)
    his hand is still upraised.^(G)

²⁶ He lifts up a banner^(H) for the distant nations,
    he whistles^(I) for those at the ends of the earth.^(J)
Here they come,
    swiftly and speedily!
²⁷ Not one of them grows tired^(K) or stumbles,
    not one slumbers or sleeps;
not a belt^(L) is loosened at the waist,^(M)
    not a sandal strap is broken.^(N)
28 Their arrows are sharp,^(O)
    all their bows^(P) are strung;
their horses’ hooves^(Q) seem like flint,
    their chariot wheels like a whirlwind.^(R)
29 Their roar is like that of the lion,^(S)
    they roar like young lions;
they growl as they seize^(T) their prey
    and carry it off with no one to rescue.^(U)
30 In that day^(V) they will roar over it
    like the roaring of the sea.^(W)
And if one looks at the land,
    there is only darkness^(X) and distress;^(Y)
    even the sun will be darkened^(Z) by clouds.

¹² Woe to the many nations that rage^(A)—
    they rage like the raging sea!^(B)
Woe to the peoples who roar^(C)—
    they roar like the roaring of great waters!^(D)
13 Although the peoples roar^(E) like the roar of surging waters,
    when he rebukes^(F) them they flee^(G) far away,
driven before the wind like chaff^(H) on the hills,
    like tumbleweed before a gale.^(I)
14 In the evening, sudden^(J) terror!^(K)
    Before the morning, they are gone!^(L)
This is the portion of those who loot us,
    the lot of those who plunder us.
