¹⁷ The Lord of hosts, who ^(A)planted you, has ^(B)pronounced evil against you because of the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have ^[a]done to provoke Me by ^[b](C)offering up sacrifices to Baal.

⁷ At one moment I might speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom to ^(A)uproot, to pull down, or to destroy it; ^8 (B)if that nation against which I have spoken turns from its evil, I will ^[a](C)relent concerning the calamity I planned to bring on it. ⁹ Or at another moment I might speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom to ^(D)build up or to plant it; ¹⁰ if it does ^(E)evil in My sight by not obeying My voice, then I will ^[b](F)think better of the good with which I had promised to ^[c]bless it.

²⁸ As I have ^(A)watched over them to ^(B)pluck up, to break down, to overthrow, to destroy and to bring disaster, so I will watch over them to ^(C)build and to plant,” declares the Lord.
