2 [a]just as fire sets twigs[b] ablaze
and the fire causes water to boil—
to make known your name to your enemies,
yes, to your enemies before you,[c]
so that the nations might quake at your presence!
3 When you did awesome deeds that we expected,[d]
you came down,
and the mountains shuddered before you.
4 Since[e] ancient times no one has heard,
and[f] no ear has perceived,
and[g] no eye has seen any God besides you,
who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.

2 As when fire sets twigs ablaze
and causes water to boil,
come down to make your name(A) known to your enemies
and cause the nations to quake(B) before you!
3 For when you did awesome(C) things that we did not expect,
you came down, and the mountains trembled(D) before you.
