¹⁷ The Lord will bring on you and on your people and on the house of your father a time unlike any since Ephraim broke away^(A) from Judah—he will bring the king of Assyria.^(B)”

⁷ I thought that after she had done all this she would return to me but she did not, and her unfaithful sister^(A) Judah saw it.^{(B) 8} I gave faithless Israel^(C) her certificate of divorce^(D) and sent her away because of all her adulteries. Yet I saw that her unfaithful sister Judah had no fear;^(E) she also went out and committed adultery.

¹⁰ In spite of all this, her unfaithful sister Judah did not return^(A) to me with all her heart, but only in pretense,^(B)” declares the Lord.^(C)

¹⁸ In those days the people of Judah will join the people of Israel,^(A) and together^(B) they will come from a northern^(C) land to the land^(D) I gave your ancestors as an inheritance.

²⁶ then I will reject^(A) the descendants of Jacob^(B) and David my servant and will not choose one of his sons to rule over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. For I will restore their fortunes^[a](C) and have compassion^(D) on them.’”

²² I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel.^(A) There will be one king over all of them and they will never again be two nations or be divided into two kingdoms.^(B)
