“Because this people has rejected(A)
    the gently flowing waters of Shiloah(B)
and rejoices over Rezin
    and the son of Remaliah,(C)
therefore the Lord is about to bring against them
    the mighty floodwaters(D) of the Euphrates—
    the king of Assyria(E) with all his pomp.(F)
It will overflow all its channels,
    run over all its banks(G)
and sweep on into Judah, swirling over it,(H)
    passing through it and reaching up to the neck.
Its outspread wings(I) will cover the breadth of your land,
    Immanuel[a]!”(J)

“Inasmuch as these people refused
The waters of (A)Shiloah that flow softly,
And rejoice (B)in Rezin and in Remaliah’s son;
Now therefore, behold, the Lord brings up over them
The waters of [a]the River, strong and mighty—
The king of Assyria and all his glory;
He will [b]go up over all his channels
And go over all his banks.
He will pass through Judah,
He will overflow and pass over,
(C)He will reach up to the neck;
And the stretching out of his wings
Will [c]fill the breadth of Your land, O (D)Immanuel.[d]

12 Therefore this is what the Holy One(A) of Israel says:

“Because you have rejected this message,(B)
    relied on oppression(C)
    and depended on deceit,
13 this sin will become for you
    like a high wall,(D) cracked and bulging,
    that collapses(E) suddenly,(F) in an instant.
14 It will break in pieces like pottery,(G)
    shattered so mercilessly
that among its pieces not a fragment will be found
    for taking coals from a hearth
    or scooping water out of a cistern.”

12 Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel:

“Because you (A)despise this word,
And trust in oppression and perversity,
And rely on them,
13 Therefore this iniquity shall be to you
(B)Like a breach ready to fall,
A bulge in a high wall,
Whose breaking (C)comes suddenly, in an instant.
14 And (D)He shall break it like the breaking of the potter’s vessel,
Which is broken in pieces;
He shall not spare.
So there shall not be found among its fragments
[a]A shard to take fire from the hearth,
Or to take water from the cistern.”
