Isaiah 9:9-11
International Standard Version
9 and all of the people were evil[a]—
Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria—
saying proudly with arrogant hearts:
10 ‘The bricks have fallen,
but we will build with dressed[b] stones;
the sycamore[c] trees have been cut down,
but we will replace them with cedars.’[d]
11 But the Lord has raised adversaries[e] from Rezin[f] against him,
and he stirs up his enemies—

New International Version
9 All the people will know it—
Ephraim(A) and the inhabitants of Samaria(B)—
who say with pride
and arrogance(C) of heart,
10 “The bricks have fallen down,
but we will rebuild with dressed stone;(D)
the fig(E) trees have been felled,
but we will replace them with cedars.(F)”
11 But the Lord has strengthened Rezin’s(G) foes against them
and has spurred their enemies on.
