Isaiah 1:16-19

¹⁶“^(A)Wash yourselves, ^(B)make yourselves clean;
^(C)Remove the evil of your deeds from My sight.
^(D)Stop doing evil,
¹⁷Learn to do good;
^(E)Seek justice,
Rebuke the oppressor,
^(F)Obtain justice for the orphan,
Plead for the widow’s case.

Invitation to Debate

¹⁸“Come now, and ^(G)let us ^[a]debate your case,”
Says the Lord,
“^(H)Though your sins are as scarlet,
They shall become as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They shall be like wool.
¹⁹^(I)If you are willing and obedient,
You will ^(J)eat the best of the land;

⁴Then Jeremiah called ^(D)Baruch the son of Neriah, and Baruch wrote on a ^[a]^(E)scroll ^[b]at the dictation of Jeremiah all the words of the Lord which He had spoken to him. ⁵Jeremiah then commanded Baruch, saying, “I am ^[c]^(F)restricted; I cannot go into the house of the Lord. ⁶So you go and ^(G)read from the scroll, which you have ^(H)written ^[d]at my dictation, the words of the Lord ^[e]to the people at the Lord’s house on a day of ^(I)fasting. And you shall also read them ^[f]to all the people of Judah who come from their cities. ⁷^(J)Perhaps their pleading will ^[g]come before the Lord, and everyone will turn from his evil way; for ^(K)great is the anger and the wrath that the Lord has pronounced against this people.”
