The new wine dries up(A) and the vine withers;(B)
    all the merrymakers groan.(C)
The joyful timbrels(D) are stilled,
    the noise(E) of the revelers(F) has stopped,
    the joyful harp(G) is silent.(H)
No longer do they drink wine(I) with a song;
    the beer is bitter(J) to its drinkers.
10 The ruined city(K) lies desolate;(L)
    the entrance to every house is barred.
11 In the streets they cry out(M) for wine;(N)
    all joy turns to gloom,(O)
    all joyful sounds are banished from the earth.
12 The city is left in ruins,(P)
    its gate(Q) is battered to pieces.
