² Who ^(A)proceed down to Egypt
Without ^(B)consulting ^[a]Me,
^(C)To take refuge in the safety of Pharaoh,
And to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt!
³ Therefore the safety of Pharaoh will be ^(D)your shame,
And the shelter in the shadow of Egypt, your humiliation.

⁷ Even Egypt, whose ^(A)help is vain and empty.
Therefore, I have called ^[a]her
“^[b](B)Rahab who has been exterminated.”

⁶ Then all the inhabitants of Egypt will know that I am the Lord,
Because they have been only a ^(A)staff made of reed to the house of Israel.
⁷ When they took hold of you with the hand,
You ^(B)broke and tore all their ^[a]hands;
And when they leaned on you,
You broke and made all their hips ^[b]shake.”
