¹¹ Shudder, you complacent ones;
tremble, you overconfident ones!
Strip yourselves bare^(A)
and put sackcloth around your waists.

¹⁷ Let the priests,^(A) the Lord’s ministers,
weep between the portico and the altar.^(B)
Let them say:
“Have pity on Your people, Lord,^(C)
and do not make Your inheritance a disgrace,^(D)
an object of scorn among the nations.
Why should it be said among the peoples,
‘Where is their God?’”^(E)
