⁷ It will be a day known only to Yahweh,^(A) without day or night, but there will be light at evening.

⁶ When Jesus saw him lying there and knew he had already been there a long time,^(A) He said to him, “Do you want to get well?”

⁶ He asked this to test him,^(A) for He Himself knew what He was going to do.

¹⁴ “Even if I testify about Myself,” Jesus replied, “My testimony is valid,^[a] because I know where I came from and where I’m going. But you don’t know where I come from or where I’m going.^(A)

³ “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” Jesus answered. “This came about so that God’s works^(A) might be displayed in him.

¹¹ He said this, and then He told them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep,^(A) but I’m on My way to wake him up.”

¹² Then the disciples said to Him, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will get well.”

¹³ Jesus, however, was speaking about his death, but they thought He was speaking about natural sleep. ¹⁴ So Jesus then told them plainly, “Lazarus has died. ¹⁵ I’m glad for you that I wasn’t there so that you may believe. But let’s go to him.”

Jesus Washes His Disciples’ Feet

13 Before the Passover Festival, Jesus knew that His hour had come to depart from this world to the Father.^(A) Having loved His own who were in the world,^(B) He loved them to the end.^[a]

² Now by the time of supper, the Devil^(C) had already put it into the heart of Judas,^(D) Simon Iscariot’s son, to betray^(E) Him. ³ Jesus knew that the Father had given everything into His hands,^(F) that He had come from God,^(G) and that He was going back to God.^(H)

¹¹ For He knew who would betray Him. This is why He said, “You are not all clean.”
