49 Listen to me, ^(A)O coastlands,
    and give attention, you peoples ^(B)from afar.
^(C)The Lord called me from the womb,
    from the body of my mother he named my name.

^3 (A)He was despised and rejected^[a] by men;
    a man of sorrows,^[b] and acquainted with^[c] grief;^[d]
and as one from whom men hide their faces^[e]
    he was despised, and ^(B)we esteemed him not.

^6 (A)I gave my back to those who strike,
    and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard;
I hid not my face
    from disgrace and spitting.
⁷ But the Lord God helps me;
    therefore I have not been disgraced;
^(B)therefore I have set my face like a flint,
    and I know that I shall not be put to shame.
