¹⁹ By the wrath^(A) of the Lord Almighty
    the land will be scorched^(B)
and the people will be fuel for the fire;^(C)
    they will not spare one another.^(D)
20 On the right they will devour,
    but still be hungry;^(E)
on the left they will eat,^(F)
    but not be satisfied.
Each will feed on the flesh of their own offspring^[a]:
²¹     Manasseh will feed on Ephraim, and Ephraim on Manasseh;^(G)
    together they will turn against Judah.^(H)

Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away,
    his hand is still upraised.^(I)

²¹ “Young and old lie together
    in the dust of the streets;
my young men and young women
    have fallen by the sword.^(A)
You have slain them in the day of your anger;
    you have slaughtered them without pity.^(B)

⁸ Slaves^(A) rule over us,
    and there is no one to free us from their hands.^(B)

⁸ The remnant of Jacob will be among the nations,
    in the midst of many peoples,
like a lion among the beasts of the forest,^(A)
    like a young lion among flocks of sheep,
which mauls and mangles^(B) as it goes,
    and no one can rescue.^(C)
