James 1:11-13

Good News Translation

¹¹The sun rises with its blazing heat and burns the plant; its flower falls off, and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way the rich will be destroyed while they go about their business.

Testing and Tempting

¹²Happy are those who remain faithful under trials, because when they succeed in passing such a test, they will receive as their reward the life which God has promised to those who love him. ¹³^(A)If we are tempted by such trials, we must not say, “This temptation comes from God.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one.

New International Version

¹¹For the sun rises with scorching heat^(A) and withers^(B) the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed.^(C) In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business.

¹²Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial^(D) because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life^(E) that the Lord has promised to those who love him.^(F)

¹³When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;
