⁸ Babylon will suddenly fall^(A) and be broken.
    Wail over her!
Get balm^(B) for her pain;
    perhaps she can be healed.

¹¹ “Go up to Gilead and get balm,^(A)
    Virgin^(B) Daughter Egypt.
But you try many medicines in vain;
    there is no healing^(C) for you.

⁹ Look, here comes a man in a chariot^(A)
    with a team of horses.
And he gives back the answer:
    ‘Babylon^(B) has fallen,^(C) has fallen!
All the images of its gods^(D)
    lie shattered^(E) on the ground!’”

“‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great!’^[a](A)
    She has become a dwelling for demons
and a haunt for every impure spirit,^(B)
    a haunt for every unclean bird,
    a haunt for every unclean and detestable animal.^(C)

² “Announce and proclaim^(A) among the nations,
    lift up a banner^(B) and proclaim it;
    keep nothing back, but say,
‘Babylon will be captured;^(C)
    Bel^(D) will be put to shame,^(E)
    Marduk^(F) filled with terror.
Her images will be put to shame
    and her idols^(G) filled with terror.’

²⁰ Moab is disgraced, for she is shattered.
    Wail^(A) and cry out!
Announce by the Arnon^(B)
    that Moab is destroyed.

¹⁷ In one hour^(A) such great wealth has been brought to ruin!’^(B)

“‘Woe! Woe to you, great city,^(J)
    where all who had ships on the sea
    became rich through her wealth!
In one hour she has been brought to ruin!’^(K)

⁸ Therefore in one day^(A) her plagues will overtake her:
    death, mourning and famine.
She will be consumed by fire,^(B)
    for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.

“‘Woe! Woe to you, great city,^(H)
    you mighty city of Babylon!
In one hour^(I) your doom has come!’
