⁷ But the Lord said to me:

² “Thus says the Lord: ‘Stand in ^(A)the court of the Lord’s house, and speak to all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the Lord’s house, ^(B)all the words that I command you to speak to them. ^(C)Do not diminish a word.

¹⁴ Then Jeremiah said, ^[a]“False! I am not defecting to the Chaldeans.” But he did not listen to him.

So Irijah seized Jeremiah and brought him to the princes.

¹⁵ Therefore the princes were angry with Jeremiah, and they struck him ^(A)and put him in prison in the ^(B)house of Jonathan the scribe. For they had made that the prison.

Jeremiah Taken to Egypt

43 Now it happened, when Jeremiah had stopped speaking to all the people all the ^(A)words of the Lord their God, for which the Lord their God had sent him to them, all these words, ^2 (B)that Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men spoke, saying to Jeremiah, “You speak falsely! The Lord our God has not sent you to say, ‘Do not go to Egypt to dwell there.’ ³ But ^(C)Baruch the son of Neriah has ^[a]set you against us, to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, that they may put us to death or carry us away captive to Babylon.” ⁴ So Johanan the son of Kareah, all the captains of the forces, and all the people would ^(D)not obey the voice of the Lord, to remain in the land of Judah.
