13 Then tell them: That’s not what I mean.[a] I mean that I will fill everyone living in this land with helpless bewilderment—from the king sitting on David’s throne, and the priests and the prophets, right on down to all the people. 14 And I will smash fathers and sons against each other, says the Lord. I will not let pity nor mercy spare them from utter destruction.
15 Oh, that you were not so proud and stubborn! Then you would listen to the Lord, for he has spoken.

13 then tell them, ‘This is what the Lord says: I am going to fill with drunkenness(A) all who live in this land, including the kings who sit on David’s throne, the priests, the prophets and all those living in Jerusalem. 14 I will smash them one against the other, parents and children alike, declares the Lord. I will allow no pity(B) or mercy or compassion(C) to keep me from destroying(D) them.’”

15 Hear and pay attention,
do not be arrogant,
for the Lord has spoken.(E)
