¹⁴ but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him ^(A)shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to ^(B)eternal life.”

³⁷ Now on ^(A)the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “^[a](B)If anyone is thirsty, ^[b]let him come to Me and drink. ³⁸ He who believes in Me, ^(C)as the Scripture said, ‘From ^[c]his innermost being will flow rivers of ^(D)living water.’” ³⁹ But this He spoke ^(E)of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for ^(F)the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet ^(G)glorified.

Division of People over Jesus

⁴⁰ Some of the people therefore, when they heard these words, were saying, “This certainly is ^(H)the Prophet.” ⁴¹ Others were saying, “This is ^[d]the Christ.” Still others were saying, “^(I)Surely ^[e]the Christ is not going to come from Galilee, is He? ⁴² Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from ^(J)the descendants of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?” ⁴³ So ^(K)a division occurred in the crowd because of Him. ^44 (L)Some of them wanted to seize Him, but no one laid hands on Him.

⁴⁵ The ^(M)officers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?” ⁴⁶ The ^(N)officers answered, “^(O)Never has a man spoken the way this man speaks.” ⁴⁷ The Pharisees then answered them, “^(P)You have not also been led astray, have you? ^48 (Q)No one of ^(R)the rulers or Pharisees has believed in Him, has he? ⁴⁹ But this crowd which does not know the Law is accursed.” ^50 (S)Nicodemus (he who came to Him before, being one of them) *said to them, ⁵¹ “^(T)Our Law does not judge a man unless it first hears from him and knows what he is doing, does it?” ⁵² They answered him, “^(U)You are not also from Galilee, are you? Search, and see that no prophet arises out of Galilee.” ⁵³ [^[f]Everyone went to his home.

¹⁷ for the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their ^(A)shepherd, and will guide them to springs of the ^[a](B)water of life; and ^(C)God will wipe every tear from their eyes.”

⁶ Then He said to me, “^[a](A)It is done. I am the ^(B)Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. ^(C)I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the ^(D)water of life without cost.

The River and the Tree of Life

22 Then ^(A)he showed me a ^(B)river of the ^(C)water of life, ^[a]clear ^(D)as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of ^[b]the Lamb,

¹⁷ The ^(A)Spirit and the ^(B)bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And ^(C)let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the ^(D)water of life without cost.
