¹⁴Have the people of Israel become slaves?
    Have they become like someone who was born a slave?
    Why was their wealth stolen?
¹⁵Enemies roar like lions at Israel.
    They growl at Israel.
They have destroyed the land of Israel.
    The cities of Israel have been burned,
    and all the people have left.
¹⁶The men from the Egyptian cities of Memphis and Tahpanhes
    have disgraced you by shaving the top of your head.

¹⁴Is Israel a servant, a slave^(A) by birth?
    Why then has he become plunder?
¹⁵Lions^(B) have roared;
    they have growled at him.
They have laid waste^(C) his land;
    his towns are burned^(D) and deserted.^(E)
¹⁶Also, the men of Memphis^(F) and Tahpanhes^(G)
    have cracked your skull.
