²⁵ Do not run until your feet are bare
    and your throat is dry.
But you said, ‘It’s no use!^(A)
    I love foreign gods,^(B)
    and I must go after them.’^(C)

3 “If a man divorces^(A) his wife
    and she leaves him and marries another man,
should he return to her again?
    Would not the land be completely defiled?^(B)
But you have lived as a prostitute with many lovers^(C)—
    would you now return to me?”^(D)
declares the Lord.

²⁰ “Go up to Lebanon and cry out,^(A)
    let your voice be heard in Bashan,^(B)
cry out from Abarim,^(C)
    for all your allies^(D) are crushed.
²¹ I warned you when you felt secure,^(E)
    but you said, ‘I will not listen!’
This has been your way from your youth;^(F)
    you have not obeyed^(G) me.
²² The wind^(H) will drive all your shepherds^(I) away,
    and your allies^(J) will go into exile.
Then you will be ashamed and disgraced^(K)
    because of all your wickedness.
