Israel Should Be Punished

26 “As a robber is put to shame when he is caught, so the family of Israel is put to shame: they, their kings, their rulers, their religious leaders, and their men of God. 27 They say to a tree, ‘You are my father,’ and to a stone, ‘You gave me birth.’ For they have turned their back to Me, and not their face. But in the time of their trouble they will say, ‘Rise up and save us.’ 28 But where are your gods that you made for yourself? Let them come if they can save you when you are in trouble. For you have as many gods as cities, O Judah.

    so the people of Israel are disgraced—
they, their kings and their officials,
    their priests(B) and their prophets.(C)
27 They say to wood,(D) ‘You are my father,’
    and to stone,(E) ‘You gave me birth.’
They have turned their backs(F) to me
    and not their faces;(G)
yet when they are in trouble,(H) they say,
    ‘Come and save(I) us!’
28 Where then are the gods(J) you made for yourselves?
    Let them come if they can save you
    when you are in trouble!(K)
For you, Judah, have as many gods
    as you have towns.(L)
