6 Then they took Jeremiah and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah, the son of Hammelech, which was in the court of the prison; and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire; so Jeremiah sank in the mire.
7 Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, one of the eunuchs who was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon (the king then sitting in the Gate of Benjamin),
8 Ebedmelech went forth out of the king’s house and spoke to the king, saying,

New International Version
6 So they took Jeremiah and put him into the cistern of Malkijah, the king’s son, which was in the courtyard of the guard.(A) They lowered Jeremiah by ropes(B) into the cistern; it had no water in it,(C) only mud, and Jeremiah sank down into the mud.(D)
7 But Ebed-Melek,(E) a Cushite,[a] an official[b](F) in the royal palace, heard that they had put Jeremiah into the cistern. While the king was sitting in the Benjamin Gate,(G) 8 Ebed-Melek went out of the palace and said to him,
