15 Now the word of the Lord came unto Jeremiah, while he was shut up in the court of the prison, saying,

16 Go and speak to Ebed-Melech the black Moor, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring my words upon this city for evil, and not for good, and they shall be accomplished in that day before thee.

17 But I will deliver thee in that day, saith the Lord, and thou shalt not be given into the hand of the men whom thou fearest.

15 While Jeremiah had been confined in the courtyard of the guard, the word of the Lord came to him: 16 “Go and tell Ebed-Melek(A) the Cushite, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I am about to fulfill my words(B) against this city—words concerning disaster,(C) not prosperity. At that time they will be fulfilled before your eyes. 17 But I will rescue(D) you on that day, declares the Lord; you will not be given into the hands of those you fear.
