28 O people of Moab, flee from your cities and live in the caves like doves that nest in the clefts of the rocks. 29 We have all heard of the pride of Moab, for it is very great. We know your loftiness, your arrogance, and your haughty heart. 30 I know her insolence, the Lord has said, but her boasts are false—her helplessness is great.

28 Abandon your towns and dwell among the rocks,
    you who live in Moab.
Be like a dove(A) that makes its nest
    at the mouth of a cave.(B)

29 “We have heard of Moab’s pride(C)
    how great is her arrogance!—
of her insolence, her pride, her conceit
    and the haughtiness(D) of her heart.
30 I know her insolence but it is futile,”
declares the Lord,
    “and her boasts(E) accomplish nothing.
