29 And the land trembleth and is in pain; for the purposes of Jehovah against Babylon do stand, to make the land of Babylon a desolation, without inhabitant. 30 The mighty men of Babylon have forborne to fight, they remain in their strongholds; their might hath failed; they are become as women: her dwelling-places are set on fire; her bars are broken. 31 One post shall run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to show the king of Babylon that his city is taken on every quarter:

29 The land trembles(A) and writhes,
for the Lord’s purposes(B) against Babylon stand—
to lay waste(C) the land of Babylon
so that no one will live there.(D)
30 Babylon’s warriors(E) have stopped fighting;
they remain in their strongholds.
Their strength is exhausted;
they have become weaklings.(F)
Her dwellings are set on fire;(G)
the bars(H) of her gates are broken.
31 One courier(I) follows another
and messenger follows messenger
to announce to the king of Babylon
that his entire city is captured,(J)
