29 And the land shall tremble and sorrow: for the device of the Lord shall be performed against Babel, to make the land of Babel waste without an inhabitant.
30 The strong men of Babel have ceased to fight: they have remained in their holds: their strength hath failed, and they were like women: they have burnt her dwelling places, and her bars are broken.
31 A post shall run to meet the post, and a messenger to meet the messenger, to show the King of Babel, that his city is taken on a [a]side thereof,

New International Version
29 The land trembles(A) and writhes,
for the Lord’s purposes(B) against Babylon stand—
to lay waste(C) the land of Babylon
so that no one will live there.(D)
30 Babylon’s warriors(E) have stopped fighting;
they remain in their strongholds.
Their strength is exhausted;
they have become weaklings.(F)
Her dwellings are set on fire;(G)
the bars(H) of her gates are broken.
31 One courier(I) follows another
and messenger follows messenger
to announce to the king of Babylon
that his entire city is captured,(J)
