Jeremiah 51:52-54
Contemporary English Version

52 Soon I will send a war
    to punish Babylon's idols
and leave its wounded people
    moaning everywhere.
53 Although Babylon's walls
    reach to the sky,
the army I send
    will destroy that city.
I, the Lord, have spoken.

Babylon Will Be Destroyed

The Lord said:

54 Listen to the cries for help
    coming from Babylon.
Everywhere in the country
the sounds of destruction
    can be heard.

New International Version

52 “But days are coming,” declares the Lord,
    “when I will punish her idols,(A)
and throughout her land
    the wounded will groan.(B)
53 Even if Babylon ascends to the heavens(C)
    and fortifies her lofty stronghold,
    I will send destroyers(D) against her,”
declares the Lord.

54 “The sound of a cry(E) comes from Babylon,
    the sound of great destruction(F)
    from the land of the Babylonians.[a]
